Dozens of primary school students, involved in activities of advocacy and environmental protection

 01-06-2023

Through the Grants for Volunteerism program of the Resource Centre for Civil Society in Kosovo, dozens of children, primary school students, have been involved in various activities related to community advocacy and environmental protection throughout this year.

Through the project “Active Youth Program in the village of Balaj – Rri’ON,” around 40 students from the village of Balaj in Ferizaj have been educated and empowered to be community advocates. They have developed leadership and active citizenship skills, and have also gained a better understanding of teamwork, becoming agents of change in the community. They are now able to analyze the needs of the community and plan and implement voluntary projects based on them. By empowering these young people’s ideas, two innovative projects related to improving community issues will be implemented.

Meanwhile, the project of the NGO PIKA, “Protect the Environment, Protect the Future,” has carried out several activities with students from different communities of the “Motrat Qiriazi” Secondary School in the municipality of Prizren. Around 70 students from grades 6-9 have together cleaned the environment in several locations, installed informational signs, planted trees, and distributed informational brochures to citizens for environmental protection. This project aims not only to raise awareness among students but also to create a meaningful and collaborative interethnic dialogue.

Today, as we celebrate International Children’s Day, the voluntary engagement of children motivates us all to continue advocating for the protection, promotion, and celebration of children’s rights, and to work for a better future for children in Kosovo.

The Resource Center for Civil Society in Kosovo is a project co-financed by the European Union (EU) and Sweden, implemented by the Kosovar Civil Society Foundation (KCSF) and Community Building Mitrovica (CBM).
