Diversifying financial resources for more sustainable organizations

Following the completion of the first three modules on internal governance, community mobilization, and impact assessment and monitoring, the fifth edition of the School of Activism continued with the topic “Diversification of Financial Resources”.

For CSOs, sustainability goes beyond securing funds for the implementation of activities; it is linked to the ability to plan strategically, preserve organizational independence, broaden the support base, and continue working beyond project cycles.

Over the course of two days, the sessions were led by Ms. Albana Zogu, a fundraising expert. The discussions emphasized that financial support should not be understood only as a donation, but also as an opportunity for citizens, communities, and partners to become part of a broader social mission.

An important part of the module was dedicated to different forms of fundraising, including one-time donations, membership, crowdfunding, fundraising through networks of supporters, events, cooperation with corporations, and support from major donors. Through these examples, the module also addressed the importance of community mapping, identifying supporters, and building long-term relationships with people who believe in the organization’s work.

This module provided participants with the opportunity to reflect on financial sustainability as part of broader organizational development, viewing fundraising not only as a financial process, but also as a way to build trust, expand support, and strengthen the connection between organizations and the communities they serve.
